Creating a blog post because my tweets are on rolling 60 day autodelete. This post is taken from a previous tweet storm titled, “34 Tips on Crushing Twitter” It was inspired by a webinar hosted by David Perell.

  • Twitter is a network to connect people with ideas

  • Twitter is a school that helps teach people

  • Twitter is a coffee shop where intellectuals talk about cutting edge ideas 

  • Twitter is a conference where you choose the speakers, topics, and time to attend

  • Twitter is the most important newspaper in the world

  • Twitter is a global town square 

Twitter is a Barstool

  • Build an intellectual journal that traces your thinking over time. Share your best ideas.

  • Twitter is a place to make friends

  • Twitter is a place to build a high-quality feed with more knowledge and less noise 

Writing Tweets

  • People respond to metaphors

  • How to present an idea is more important than the idea itself

  • Make an idea visual in someway 

Power of Twitter

  • Twitter can make you a billion dollars

  • Twitter rewards people who are different

  • Most of David's closest friends he met on Twitter

Power of Twitter DM

  • People such as @mrsharma@dollarsanddata, and @_TamaraWinter he met through Twitter DM

  • DM's are like dark matter. Interesting things happen that you don't see in public.

  • People are making multi-million dollars deals on Twitter 

Staying Focused

  • The paradox of specificity - the more you focus, the more opportunities you get

  • Focus on a passion that people aren't talking about

  • David wrote about the future of media and ended up getting his first job through Twitter

Using Twitter to Test Ideas

  • In 2019, David announced on Twitter that he wanted to teach 1,000 people how to write

  • Hundreds of people reached out and he started a course called Write of Passage

  • Use Twitter to tease an idea over time

Finding People to Follow

  • Don't use Twitter's recommendations

  • Look through someone that you follows likes to see who are good people to follow

  • Find people who are really good at a specific topic such as @trengriffin or @foundmyfitness 

Using Different Tools

  • There are a lot of ways to skin a cat

  • There isn't one specific way to use Twitter

  • Focus on sharing unique ideas
